In a market dominated by large international firms, Lanix has forged a significant market niche and is currently Mexico’s largest domestic electronics company. Their product base is broad, encompassing desktop and laptop computers, tablets, smartphones, an array of monitors, televisions and assorted support components. In December 2016, Lanix launched their high-spec Ilium LT model 510 phone in Uruguay, as their first market in the southern cone of South America. This expansion policy requires the legal team to have a large jurisdictional knowledge base, as does their products’ extensive and geographically varied supply chain, due to the globalised nature of their production operations and the increasing expectation that companies will be more transparent in this area. Providing oversight to such a large and complex product, especially when competing against some of the largest and most established companies in the world, requires the legal team to be extra vigilant when mitigating any potential risks that may occur over the life-cycle of the product.
