What are the key projects you have been involved in over the past twelve months?

We’re a real estate investment company headquartered in Luxembourg, investing in telecoms infrastructure. Our business is very much about volume rather than acquiring large sites. Between June 1, 2025 and May 31, 2026, we acquired 373 separate sites across Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Poland, Greece, Portugal and the UK. My role is to manage the legal process of acquiring those sites, working with my in-house attorneys in Italy, Spain, France and Poland and external lawyers elsewhere.

We also closed a deal in March to acquire a group of companies for around €70m, which added another 500+ sites to our portfolio.

Can you describe an instance where your legal advice directly influenced business strategy or commercial objectives?

My legal advice directly affects our commercial objectives every month. The final say on whether to acquire a site largely rests with me in Legal, working in conjunction with my business partners, plus our equity partner.

What key trends should in-house counsel be monitoring over the coming months?

AI (I bet everyone says that!) makes everything quicker and easier. Previously, if I needed advice on a specific issue, I’d approach internal counsel first and then external counsel. Now, my first stop is Claude: I use it for high level advice so that I’m better informed about a particular issue. I’ll then be able to frame my question from a more knowledgeable position. I find that I can get to the heart of an issue much faster and often at a lower price in terms of fees.

How has the role of general counsel evolved, and what are the most important attributes for the modern in-house lawyer?

The role of a GC has arguably always been about making sure that the business gets the correct advice from subject matter experts. That was partly about linking up one’s business partner with a legal expert in any particular field. This continues, but, as I mentioned above, AI allows me to be better informed much more quickly about a particular issue. So, I can ask more detailed questions faster, to ensure that we don’t spend days trying to find the right person to give appropriate advice.

>Have you had any particularly unique or defining experiences during your legal career?
