My goal is to become a reliable business partner to the top management team that would give significant impact to future strategic or business decisions and enhance the value of the company, including in situation where there is a need for strategic advice in key M&A deals or major disputes.

What are the key trends that in-house counsel should be monitoring over the coming months?

The advancement of AI technology cannot be undermined and utilisation of AI technology to business is essential. From an in-house perspective, we need to look out for the pit-falls and legal risks that this new technology entails and guide the company’s initiative and safeguard the corporate value.

What are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?

In this volatile and changing business world, understanding and looking ahead of the trends in geopolitics and how these could affect the business would be essential. From an in-house perspective, setting up a task-force group on geopolitics may be a great way to mitigate the risks an entity may face. I have set this up in the previous company which was considered valuable to the top management.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

In this fragmented world, where existing values have been challenged on many fronts, I believe it is more relevant and important for entities to strengthen their commitment to their purpose and value. These should guide us as a compass to make this world a better place and contribute to the betterment of people’s lives. As head of legal for an entertainment business, I am excited to supply the world with new movies or anime content that can enhance and entertain people’s lives. It would be a dream come true if I could contribute to the company’s purpose in providing “surprise and excitement” to the world.
