General manager of the legal department | PERSOL HOLDINGS CO., LTD.
Team size: 10
What are the key projects that you have been involved in over the past twelve months?
Key projects include: leading initiatives to establish and strengthen the Group’s privacy governance framework; developing a framework and criteria for assessing AI risks; the acquisition of a French company.
Each of these initiatives lays the foundation for the PERSOL Group’s future business strategy and supports our growth strategy. In pursuing these projects, I frequently went beyond the traditional scope of legal affairs to collaborate closely with stakeholders in other departments, actively engaging in their areas of responsibility to drive the projects forward.
What are the key trends that in-house counsel should be monitoring over the coming months?
I believe the key trend is the utilisation of AI technology.
When introducing AI into our own work, the challenge is striking a balance between using AI to improve productivity and leveraging the unique value that only humans can provide.
When introducing AI into our businesses, we must balance promoting AI with ensuring governance that aligns with global standards.
What are the most important attributes for a modern in-house counsel to possess?
The ability to keenly sense societal trends and to identify and define issues and themes to address in line with the company’s management strategy. The ability to identify and establish new standards in emerging, uncharted areas is also key.
