Career Biography

Mr. Tagaya is the executive officer, head of legal and secretariat division of JERA, a major energy firm in the global energy market with a mission to provide cutting edge solutions to the world’s energy issues. Prior to joining JERA in 2016, Mr. Tagaya worked for a Japanese governmental financial institution (JBIC) and was involved in energy project financing in Asia and Middle East. Mr. Tagaya also spent time at Allen & Overy’s Projects Group in London and at an international financial institution (EBRD) in London, involved in development financing in emerging countries. He was awarded ALB (Asian Legal Business) Japan “In-house Lawyer of the Year” in 2017, Chambers “GC Influencers” Japan in 2019 and the Legal 500 GC Powerlist Japan in 2025. He received LL.B. from Kyoto University (Japan) and LL.M. from Georgetown University (US).
