Career Biography

Chika Hirata joined American International Group (AIG) in June 2025 as general counsel and chief compliance officer of AIG Japan. She sits on the Japan leadership team as the responsible officer in charge of Legal, Compliance, Regulatory and Corporate Secretary.

Before joining AIG, she was the head of Japan/JPBU ethics & compliance at Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (Takeda). She successfully managed the organisational change during Takeda’s transition to the top ranks of the global pharmaceutical industry. She also led the Japan pharmaceutical industry as the first female Chair of the Code & Compliance Committee at Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA). As the first Japanese industry leader and as a member of the Japan Delegate, she chaired a session at the 2024 Business Ethics for APEC SMEs Initiative leading the industry to strengthen ethical conducts in the biopharmaceutical and medical device sectors.

Prior to Takeda, Chika has worked at MetLife Insurance in Japan as statutory executive officer, SVP and chief legal officer, and at various global financial institutions as well as in private practice as a lawyer.
