Taking charge of the legal function at the company in this context, Laura Tricomi, group director of legal affairs, is proud of her team’s ‘strong commitment’ during a time of ‘great vivacity and growth’ as the company attempts to grow its footprint in the agrochemicals market. Legal activity at the company used to be outsourced to external firms, which she states led to issues like ‘slowdown in business’ as well as the ‘clarity of business and contractual relations suffering’. Now managing ‘most’ legal and corporate affairs in-house, Tricomi explains the benefits of this internalisation as being the guarantee of a ‘fast, competent and above all, cost containment’ solution to legal problems. Tricomi claims that the commercial agreements negotiated and executed by the team are of a high volume and diverse nature; they dealt with, amongst other things – ‘a total of over two hundred commercial agreements spanning several fields in 2016 alone’. In spite of the tremendous workload, Tricom is insistent that the team consciously builds a culture that is focused on ‘enthusiasm, fairness, strong team spirit, desire to grow and great commitment, this involves constant legal research, listening to the needs and demands of everyone in the company and many hours of intense work without looking at the clock’. Amidst a testing time for the company including new regulatory directives and the changing nature of the biochemical industry, the legal department has been at the heart of initiatives including ‘the increase of work aimed at the greater exploitation of the IP generated by Isagro’s flagship research and the creation of a more strengthened sales network’. Having studied new regulations and being proactive in the management of legal and business issues, the team’s willingness to put themselves forward for the good of the business is clear. The team ‘directly advises’ top management of the company any all relevant legalities concerning M&A, commercial agreements and litigation in domestic and international spheres. In addition to Tricomi, Niccolò Consonni, junior legal affairs, is highlighted for providing ‘accurate and fast responses to business people in the day by day activities of the company’.
