Team size: 20 in house lawyers 

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?  

I managed to cope with a heavy workload by implementing initiatives such as a secondment of an external lawyer in my team. 

It was the first time that ATM implemented a secondment, and it has been an extremely positive experience, allowing us to collaborate with an experienced lawyer, promote exchanges between in-house lawyers and external lawyers, and ensure professional enrichment for all the parties involved, ultimately improving the level of service provided to our internal customers. 

Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?  

General counsel will increasingly become a key point for the other business functions. General counsel are called to provide prompt, comprehensive and consistent information and advice; in the future they will be increasingly expected to not only align with business directives but to play a pivotal role in implementing strategic and industrial plans.  

To this end, general counsel will need to keep constant open dialogue with other managers and work to increase integration with other business functions.  

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment? 

D&I is a priority for my legal department and for my company, which is strongly committed to promoting a positive and non-discriminatory work environment by adopting corporate policies for more diversity in the workplace. Also,gender equality of the legal teams is a prerequisite to the selection of our advisors.  

Recently, my office proposed the introduction of the confidential counsellor, who provides advice and assistance to anyone claiming to have been a victim of discrimination, mobbing, sexual, moral, and psychological harassment.  

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, you are passionate about, and why? 

The legal team is constantly involved in initiatives aimed at creating a business network of women and supporting women in developing their careers and advancing into leadership roles. We recently joined a women’s empowerment program named Bridge the Gap, promoted by the Milan office of an international law firm, and centred around networking and shadowing. We also joined Progetto KORE, a program promoted by an organisational consulting firm, focused on creating a development path for women in leadership positions.
