Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?  

Our different markets legal heads used to prepare legal assessments on different templates, not harmonized and not containing the same bare minimum information. We worked fully in-house to create a global template, well-structured to contain all the necessary information and now used all over our different markets, 

  

How would you assess the impact of new technologies on the legal landscape in Italy, and what measures would you propose to leverage these technologies while ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations?  

Artificial intelligence (AI) is an increasingly pervasive tool that is changing the world and the way we work. As a company, we are adopting a responsible approach to AI in communication networks – we have created an AI centre of excellence to drive AI research and innovation leadership, and we contribute to multiple AI standardization forums to enhance quality and security, to increase performance, and to meet sustainability goals in communication networks. Similarly, we are taking a responsible approach to the internal use of generative AI tools. 

 

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?  

We have just celebrated the global pride month, and as a legal department we are committed to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. This is a critical element of our people strategy, and this is not an initiative with a start and end date, but an integral part of our culture. Having an inclusive workplace is key to individual and company growth. While we are sustaining company wide D&I initiatives, we ensure our team is leading by examples, so that the structure and composition of our legal team reflects diversity and inclusion with no space for compromise. 

 

Can you foresee any key developments to the way general counsel work over the next five years?  

In the coming years, to become a solid general counsel, one must become much more familiar with financial language and balance sheet reading capabilities. Besides, general counsel will be required to sharpen technical capabilities to better understand legal implications into the new challenges, such as AI.
