Since being admitted to the Italian Bar in 2007, Giorgio Gravina held several in-house and private practice positions, including working as a legal counsel at Heineken Italia, senior legal advisor at Sea Aeroporti di Milano, associate lawyer at Lawpartners, and others in a career spanning the food and beverage industry, transport services industry and most recently manufacturing industry and related services. He assumed his current position at Schindler Italy as general counsel and compliance officer in January 2014. When he joined, Gravina reorganised the legal department both in terms of areas of focus, skillsets and company priorities. The company is now able to benefit from an efficient legal department focused on supporting the management and the business on different issues and deeply involved in the day by day business activity. Gravina’s approach has been, as he says, ‘to develop an ever increasing commercial sensitivity, to understand the business in order to really add value and to be able to discern the critical information from the less important. These highlights allow me to reach the business expectation to take decisions from a legal-business perspective and to take them quickly’. Schindler has experienced a period of growth with Gravina’s legal team at the heart of important transactions, M&A activity, and contract negotiations on the start of big new projects related to new installations and maintenance services. It has also been involved in litigation related to public tender procurements and administrative law procedures. Under Gravina’s leadership the team has handled these matters with expertise and continues to benefit Schindler in its growth and development.
