As the general counsel of the Italian and Greek branches of French multinational food-product company Danone, Giancarlo Cesare Giorgio is responsible for the legal, compliance and regulatory affairs of all the legal entities of the Danone Group located both in Italy and Greece. Within the recently created department, Giorgio coordinates a team of resources dedicated to the three functions and areas of the business in which the companies operate: dairy, early life nutrition and advanced medical nutrition. In his new role he guides the Danone Italian and Greek companies towards the implementation of a compliance program that aims at setting high ethical and behavioural standards. Through this process, he has helped to build a strong compliance culture and ensured the protection of the businesses which operate in heavily regulated areas. Before joining Danone, Giorgio was a legal and compliance director for the FMCG British multinational company Reckitt Benckiser, where he was responsible for fourteen different countries in the Southern East Europe area. Thanks to this role, Giorgio has gained extensive experience in managing legal and compliance matters in a variety of jurisdictions and geographies both in civil law and common law countries. He has particularly developed a great expertise in anti-bribery and antitrust issues, facing and handling investigations and down raids from both national and European authorities. Bringing more than ten years of practice in the FMCG and pharmaceutical industry sectors, Giorgio is able to bring his experience and business acumen in supporting and protecting the businesses in all kinds of advertising activities. Furthermore, he has acquired the skill of providing equitable and viable solutions also in relation to very sensitive areas such as that of childhood nutrition. Believing that the support provided by in-house counsels should also be driven by return on investment, Giorgio provides effective solutions to three businesses in the cluster, while also overlooking the management of P&L, a key success factor for any business.
