About

Elena Impagnatiello is the general counsel for the Italian office of CBRE Global Investors. In her role, she is responsible for providing legal advice and support in relation to any real estate investment management-related matter, ensuring risks identification and compliance with applicable Italian laws and regulations. Within CBRE Global Investors, Impagnatiello has been responsible for corporate, legal and regulatory affairs since 2012 and has been a member of the board of directors since 2015. Impagnatiello joined the company as a senior legal counsel in 2008 – when it was then called ING Real Estate Investment Management Italy – and became general counsel for Italy in 2012. Before joining, she worked as an attorney for primary Italian and international law firms, Chiomenti Studio Legale between 2000 and 2002 and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer between 2003 and 2007, building up solid experience in the corporate, capital markets, M&A and real estate investment management areas of practice. She is a non-executive member of the management board of CBRE Global Investors which has progressively become a leading player to bring Italian institutional investors to invest in real estate outside of Italy through regulated alternative investment funds. Impagnatiello highlights that she ‘is the [company’s] only in-house legal counsel in Italy and responsible for sourcing, organising external counsel and is closely involved in all major acquisitions and dispositions’, and she has become ‘a trusted adviser of internal investment and asset management teams’. Recent transactions have included a joint venture agreement with an Italian investment management company managing an Italian regulated fund fully invested by a primary Italian pension scheme for investments outside of Italy worth €500m. She supervised the launch of an Italian regulated fund fully invested by a primary Italian insurance company to invest in logistic assets in the Eurozone, worth €150m, and the acquisition from a potentially insolvent seller of a primary retail and office property in the centre of Milan for a foreign institutional investor, worth €213m.
