About

In August 2015 the merger of National Roads Authority (NRA) and Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) created Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII). TII is a state-operated agency responsible for the Irish road and public transport infrastructure. Edel McCormack is head of governance and legal for the combined entity, leading a legal team that covers a diverse infrastructure network across Ireland. The integration of the NRA and RPA had the potential to be a daunting operation, but the legal team was able to combine efficiently and help the rest of the operations integrate into a cohesive entity. TII now oversees a vast network of roads as well as a collection of current and future light railway (Luas) and metro routes. The legal team has been influential in the development of strategic goals in the short (one year), medium (two to three years) and long term (over three years), as TII seeks to continuously improve the transport networks under its care. The legal team also handle the contracts for some of the largest infrastructure projects in Ireland, ensuring the strictest of compliance while helping the business to negotiate the best deal for the tender. Environmental law is ever a concern for a company that operates such a wide-spread infrastructure network, and the legal team is known to be at the forefront of thinking for this topic.
