As we enter the next decade, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

Modern in-house teams must have an in-depth understanding of the business and keep themselves up to date with developments in the legal field. Combining these two factors creates a robust strategic base for any company to tackle legal and functional challenges. Close coordination on strategy discussions and the exchange of research internally is the need of the hour. In-house teams in the present times are transforming into full-fledged industry experts with 360-degree expertise on unique issues that we are experiencing in a competitive world scenario where India is emerging as a key market player.

The unusual business environment created by the pandemic has been swiftly followed by the Ukraine crisis, attendant supply chain costs rising, and rising inflation. Are you now putting more emphasis on preparing for the unforeseen, and, if so, what does this entail?

In general, the pandemic has negatively impacted the markets, but there are several examples to show the opportunities it brought along. The accelerated pace of digitisation and, specific to the legal industry, a much more efficient functioning have been a few examples of the functional changes that the new world scenario brought along. Post-pandemic market sentiments have been at an upward turn, and there is a focus on high-propelling growth.

Further, Russia Ukraine war has significantly impacted the economies and, to an extent, levelled the sentiments of post-pandemic growth. India is tackling this at a strategic level at its best. This strategic alignment and flexibility are the best example of the kind of preparation we need for the future. Just as how India as a country has redefined itself and presented itself to be home to global innovation, GMR has recognised its strengths and reinforced itself for a perpetual sustainable future by incubating an ever-growing base of skills and competencies.

We have always believed in preparing for the unforeseen by uplifting the social confidence of the nation in ourselves. We have digitised our processes and aligned the whole organisation internally and externally in a future-proof fashion. The workforce is strongly aligned and trained regularly to be an enterprise in itself that requires minimal supervision. Inculcating a decision-making personality and a sense of leadership at every level of the organisation makes it future-ready.

Such initiatives, amongst many others, are envisioned to prepare our organisation for the unforeseen but the society at large.
