What is the biggest risk facing your industry now and how are you preparing your organisation to deal with this?

The technology sector is going through a complex dichotomic situation. On the one hand, there is high attrition —an average of around 22% in India — and on the other hand, costs are increasing due to high salaries and normalisation post covid coupled with increased travelling, high cost of travel including hotel costs and flight costs. Retaining and nurturing good talent is key to long-term success in this complex situation. Within our organisation, we believe in identifying high-performing skills, measures to recognise their contribution and upgrading the average performers with knowledge sharing, to mentor and holding hands 1:1. Bringing a human touch to our workforce through a hybrid work policy whereby we recognise the need for work-life balance is yielding good positive results.

What are some of the most significant cases or transactions you have worked on recently?

As a technology company, we are working closely with the government to build smart cities in India through a competitive bidding process. We are also keen to contribute towards ‘Digital India’ through NEC’s core expertise in the technology field.

What is a cause, business or otherwise, you are passionate about and why?

India is a fast-developing economy, and unlike many other regions facing vast challenges of inflation, oil prices and war, our economy continues to be stable. There is an excellent push on digital, and data will play a key role in it. Protecting an individual’s data within the realm of the massive growth of social media is a big challenge. Such data would include sensitive personal and non-personal data, and India is poised to develop a strong law around data privacy. I am very passionate about the means and importance of protecting the data of an individual, proprietary and confidential information, and creating an atmosphere within the organisation where employees learn not to misuse such information. Building a culture of compliance is the mantra for the long-term sustenance of any organisation, and I am keen to shape a company’s culture on these lines.
