Energias de Portugal (EDP) is one of Portugal’s largest business groups and major electricity operators. EDP is historically known for generating, distributing and supplying electricity in Portugal, Spain, France, Poland, Romania, Brazil and the US. The legal team is led by head of legal Rita Ferreira de Almeida, who steers, leads and coordinates a large team of internal lawyers, as well as a number of external counsel. Nominators have praised her skills and efficiency for leading and managing the team on advising on and handling group’s legal matters – ‘some of them the most intricate and high profile cases in Portugal’. Amongst these important projects, most recently the legal team facilitated the building of a 3.8 MW solar project with some storage capacity for battery maker Exide Technologies. EDP will be in charge of the operation, maintenance and real-time monitoring of the solar and storage capacity of two solar photovoltaic systems.
