Prior to joining Campofrío Food Group, Marta García Alba worked in-house for Allied Domecq and Diageo, ultimately operating as regional counsel for Western Europe (Iberia, Greece, Italy and Switzerland) at the latter. She has been global legal director for Campofrío, a major international meat producer, since 2014 and has overseen a number of improvements to the company’s legal capabilities since then, as she explains: ‘Together with my team, we have set the basis for a cultural transformation at Campofrío Food Group, and have contributed to the up-scaling of legal and regulatory awareness across the business and the organisation, creating a strong sense of partnership in the process’.

Perhaps most importantly, she reports that this has successfully contributed to ‘demonstrating that business and legal working together are best positioned to deliver outstanding strategy and results’, thus further establishing the legal function within the company and achieving a corresponding increase in efficiencies. As well as working on the internal legal function, she has been at the forefront of some impressive projects for Campofrío Food Group. Among others, she mentions her contribution to the ‘settlement of a €313m insurance property damage and business interruption claim associated to the fire destruction of a main production facility’ and the ‘acquisition of a Romanian group of companies’ as among her greatest achievements.
