The legal and compliance team is responsible for all of the maritime, commercial, company and property law and regulation globally, as well as having a particular focus on China. The company’s commitment to technology is evident by its announcement in April 2018 of its partnership with Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) to apply AI technology research to improve OOCL’s network operations and effectiveness. The legal team’s leader is Lammy Lee, who in her role of group legal advisor, company secretary and compliance officer has managed the legal and compliance functions at the company since 1997, and has been compliance officer since 2004. Lee’s oversight of the legal team is extremely important to the functioning of the department, as she has worked for OOCL since 1988 and has held various positions in the company during the last 30 years. The team works on projects like the Microsoft agreement, and facilitates the smooth running of the legal operation across the company.
