CCB International (Holdings) Limited (‘CCBI’) is the financial and investment arms of China Construction Bank Corporation (Stock Code: 939) and is a full-fledged financial services platform. Apart from its home base in the mainland and its headquarters in Hong Kong, CCBI has subsidiaries in world financial centres such as Singapore and London.

Given the rapid changes in market trends, regulatory focus and technology, we need to stay abreast of the changing regulations and laws so as to identify potential legal risk and compliance issues and assess how these factors will impact our business operations and legal obligations under such complex global environment. During challenging times, the legal team plays an even more vital role within the organisation to ensure we continuously and proactively assess the situation to allow business to achieve sustainability and resilience. Keep an open mind, be adaptive and receptive to changes, new ideas and technologies are our strategies and all our team members are dedicated to continuously support the future growth of our organisation.

How do you build and maintain a strong legal team?

In the face of unnerving changes in the modern world, our aspirations are to transform and change. We must strive to build and retain an exceptional legal team with extraordinary people — re-tasked, re-deployed and re-skilled is essential. Moving away from specialisms to a more fungible legal resource pool of competent and adaptable lawyers. The legal function stands at a pivotal crossroads where the choice is not between human expertise and automation, but rather stagnation and evolution. By integrating AI, we believe the legal department can transform from a perceived bottleneck into a resilient, high-velocity partner capable of matching the rapid pace of modern business. We must ensure ‘human in the loop’ is not just a gatekeeper, but a strategic architect of the organisation’s future.
