How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure organisational resilience?

I support the Global Business Units and Channels in HPE and change and crisis is a constant in our industry. During periods of instability or crisis, my approach is to ensure that legal is embedded in the decision-making process from the outset rather than acting as a checkpoint at the end. Effective crisis management requires a clear understanding of the business objectives, the legal and regulatory landscape, and the potential operational impact of decisions. I focus on providing practical, risk-based advice that enables the business to move quickly while maintaining compliance and protecting long-term value. Alignment with the broader business strategy is essential. Legal strategy should support organisational resilience by anticipating emerging risks, strengthening governance, safeguarding customer and partner trust, and enabling informed decision-making. In a rapidly changing environment, resilience is built not only through risk mitigation but also through the ability to adapt confidently and responsibly.

What is one leadership principle or practice that has had the greatest impact on your career as a GC?

One leadership principle that has had the greatest impact on my career is leading with trust and accountability. As Associate General Counsel supporting our Global Businesses, success depends on building strong relationships across the organisation and creating an environment where people feel empowered to take ownership while knowing they have the support they need. Trust enables open dialogue, better decision-making and stronger collaboration between legal and business teams. At the same time, accountability ensures that high standards are maintained and that decisions are made with integrity. This balance has helped me develop high-performing teams, strengthen partnerships with business leaders, and position legal as a strategic contributor to organisational success rather than solely a risk-management function.
