Theodossis Tompras

Legal affairs department director | WIND Hellas Telecommunications (WIND Hellas)

About

Theodossis Tompras started his career at the Greek telecommunications provider WIND Hellas in 2006 following a three year stint in private practice. Starting off as a junior regulatory and competition lawyer, Tompras quickly worked his way up the company becoming regulatory affairs director two years later.

Following two years away from the company between 2010 and 2012), working in the energy sector and building the legal and regulatory department of a retailer, Tompras took charge of both the legal and regulatory departments of WIND Hellas. Tompras has been in his present position, legal affairs department director, following the spin-off of the legal department as a distinct unit in 2014. Characterised by a distinct ‘can-do’ and ‘problem-solving’ attitude, Tompras has achieved a remarkable transformation of the legal department at WIND Hellas. ‘Post-2012 we have put all our energy and focus into building a highly diverse and complex legal risk management strategy under the project title “Legal Service 360⁰ reorganisation”,’ Tompras explains.

‘This allows the company to monitor quantitative KPIs in real time on all its legal risk factors, automatically transforming legal risks and case dockets to value at risk metrics, on a daily basis’. Lasting four years, this project ended the traditional lawyer engagement process and introduced a hybrid of client-facing approach where lawyers have become true business partners, involved from the initial phase of the decision making process. ‘This also introduced and expanded a legal, risk averse company-wide culture where legal risk mitigation was introduced as an equal priority, like other commercial business priorities,’ Tompras adds. ‘Nowadays the WIND legal department stands at the forefront of digitalisation introducing at every stage of legal work, innovative IT and collaborative tools, all focused firstly to serve the risk mitigation culture and secondly to leverage the unavoidably finite resources by introducing a mix of engagement facilities, compensation schemes and innovative legal operations tools.’

Besides these outstanding organisational improvements, Tompras has impressed with his consistent involvement in key transactions, such as a Vodafone Greece-WIND Hellas Network sharing agreement, a number of M&A deals that have contributed to a consolidation in the Greek telecommunications sector and an important digital dividend auction.
