Andreas Petasis joined Eurobank Cyprus as the sole internal lawyer following its inauguration in 2007, and within three years was promoted to the position of head of legal services, assuming leadership for a team of three lawyers. Besides his legal role, Petasis is as member and secretary of the Eurobank Appeals and Ethics committees and serves as director and secretary of a number of the bank’s subsidiaries in Cyprus.

Besides developing a well organised and operationally strong legal department, Petasis is credited for dealing with complex and unprecedented issues that the Cyprus banking industry faced in 2013. ‘Though working under pressure had already been part of our daily routine, 2013 gave new meaning and strength to the phrase,’ Petasis says. ‘The perplexity of the situation did not only require ability to work under pressure, it also required ability to work accurately and flawlessly, an art I have mastered since then’. Handling large and complex transactions across shipping finance, syndicated lending and other areas, is another area of pride for Petasis.

‘As a lifelong learner with high interest in keeping appraised with changes, new ideas and trends, I thrive with opportunities to engage in new and demanding tasks which challenge me as a professional,’ he explains. Prior to joining Eurobank, Petasis worked for three years at the Cypriot branch of Arab Bank, where he also developed a strong legal function. Petasis’ career in financial services kicked-off in 2000, when he joined CLR Financial Services.
