A highly accomplished legal professional, Alexia Trokoudi was formerly head of the legal department of the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy. She explains that this prestigious position – which she took on in 2007 – ‘enriched [her] with the knowledge to read the law on one hand and listen to the stakeholders on the other’, and it was these characteristics as well as the immense technical expertise gained through high level regulatory work that brought her to the attention of Hellenic Petroleum (HELPE Group).

Moving to the company in April 2015, she describes the creation of the company’s legal and regulatory department from scratch as perhaps her most important contribution to the business’ fortunes since joining. ‘Such a division did not exist in HELPE in the past’, she explains. ‘I was called on to create a department that would cover all legal and regulatory aspects. The extensive European legal and regulatory framework is under the scrutiny of the department and its legal team, cooperating closely with other scientists in the Group’. In terms of projects, Trokoudi mentions some particularly impressive work she undertook during her regulatory days: ‘I had a distinguished role to play during the very long and tough negotiations that we had with the European Commission (EU Competition and EU Energy) during the transposition of the second and third Energy Packages (Directives), where I participated as a member of the Greek Delegation (as a representative of the regulator/head of legal)’.

Combining this high-level experience with commercial nous and excellent legal fundamentals, Trokoudi is one of the most capable in-house lawyers in the country.
