The largest Airline Alliance in the world by passengers carried (almost 700 million as of late 2016), Frankfurt-headquartered Star Alliance is a cooperative entity between 28 of the most notable airlines globally. Among others, Star Alliance counts Lufthansa, Asiana Airlines, Eva Air, Egyptair, Thai Airlines and Swiss Airlines among its total fleet of over 4,600 aircraft; the organisation is a hugely powerful player in the fiercely competitive global airline market. Alska Scherer has over a decade of tenure with Star Alliance, joining originally in 2005, and has added to her responsibilities steadily since then. In addition to legal responsibilities – known to be highly important considering they include creating and updating the framework for the agreements which hold the alliance together – Scherer’s simultaneous role as human resources director shows the variety of her talents and the esteem in which she is held by the Star Alliance business management.
