AXA celebrates its 200th year of operation in 2017, and can look back on an illustrious history that has seen it rise to its current position as one of the most influential and significant transnational corporate entities in the world. AXA now has operations that span insurance, investment management and other financial services, making it one of the top brands in the world. Group general counsel Helen Browne was installed in the group’s top legal role in September 2016, and has immense experience with the company to draw from. Browne has risen through the ranks of the legal department since her joining in 2001, and spent time in the company’s finance and M&A legal departments before joining the general counsel office. Recently the legal team has been involved in coordinating a joint project with Google to offer bundled insurance products dealing with technology and hardware in order to create a forward thinking protection package that is relevant to an increasingly digital world. The company has also, in May 2016, taken the progressive approach of offloading its tobacco stocks in order to put pressure on the industry and improve public health. There has been a significant knock on effect to this which has led to a number of other large companies doing the same, which has had a positive effect towards the company’s ethical responsibilities and public relations message.
