Joséphine Deege-Mansour

Executive legal director | United Technologies Corporation (UTC) - Global Fire and Security Field Operations

About

Formerly an associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, then in-house legal director for logistics operator Carrier Transicold, Joséphine Deege-Mansour took on her wide-ranging position as senior executive director for UTC’s global fire and security division – which accounts for around 17,000 employees and $3bn in revenue – in 2016. Deege-Mansour’s legal department has ten direct legal reports and 33 total lawyers worldwide, and she is highly complimentary of her colleagues; Deege-Mansour mentions that she is ‘lucky to have a team of very strong lawyers’, and ‘loves working with such a diverse team and learning about the different cultures and ways of operating’ that this entails.

A consistently strong performer, Deege-Mansour has progressed upwards among the hierarchies of the businesses she has operated in roughly every two years throughout her career, with her communicative and collaborative approach being a major catalyst for this success. Alongside this, she has consistently developed the legal function around her expertise and, in her words, has ‘given another dimension to the legal team’.

Now, she explains, ‘the legal team is not just the legal advisor in the office, but a true business partner, which was one of the things I wanted most to happen when taking over as team lead’. Deege-Mansour herself is similarly embedded in the business element of the company, and currently sits on a number of committees aimed at implementing company strategy. She has also had an important impact on aligning her legal team with company goals, through the use of a global legal shared drive, and has successfully built the team into an international legal community despite the diverse locations of its lawyers.
