What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Reducing regulatory burdens was the most significant transaction I faced between the end of 2022 and early 2023, achieving over $4m in savings each year for the company. This goal was particularly challenging because it involved legal, economic, and regulatory knowledge; working with different companies and guilds to support the strategy; talking and working with public officers like congressmen, different ministers for each aspect of the strategy; and ensuring strict compliance with FCPA regulations.

Why are in-house lawyers well-placed to drive change in their organisations?

In-house lawyers are not only supervisors or advisors that act after the implementation of a failed product strategy implementation. The in-house lawyer must also have a profound knowledge of the company products, metrics and be driven with the whole company goal.

They are part of any action that the company takes, providing thorough analysis and advice to eliminate or reduce any kind of risk to prevent losses. Also, in-house lawyers have a role in establishing a culture of compliance, especially in constantly evolving regulatory environments. Furthermore, it is vital that they gain the trust and confidence of the product or business areas.

As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

Legal teas must continuously develop their skillset to remain prepared for the changing environment that we face each day. Getting ahead of new technologies and providing advice on their proper implementation is necessary. In this area, external law firms that work with in-house teams are especially important; it is vital for them to provide development opportunities and remain close to their clients.
