What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in? 

The legal challenge in June 2025 to the order by the Government of Kenya against live broadcasts of  public demonstrations. Also, a transaction on indirect acquisition of majority shareholding in the company’s listed shares on the Nairobi, Uganda, Rwanda and Dar-es-Salaam Stock Exchanges.. 

How do you navigate the legal complexities of cross-border transactions within the East African Community (EAC) and beyond? 

Constant liaison with external counsel to provide regional masterclasses for the In-house team on legal developments  as a part of the Group’s Continuous  Professional development.

In light of increasing regulatory scrutiny across sectors in East Africa, how are you adapting your compliance frameworks to stay ahead of change? 

NMG has developed as policy of front-line compliance stance. This means that it must always have its compliance policies and procedures   which exceed the general legal and regulatory requirements. This ensures that the group always operates above the bar of the  regulatory standards in all its operations.

What trends are you seeing in foreign investment into the region, and how does your role support or facilitate these opportunities? 

FDI flows into the region is keen but cautious and particularly sensitive to  the political environment in each country within the region. I see my role as to read the legal and regulatory landscape  with the agile caution to encourage investment. In this way we try to sell assurance that the rule of law has a place in ensuring a safe investment climate.
