Career Biography
Roman has been ASA Uganda’s Chief Legal Officer for the past three years, and in that time, he has become one of the most quietly indispensable members of the leadership team. His work sits at the intersection of board governance, legal & regulatory compliance, and debt financing and he handles all three with a level of calm and competence that the institution has come to rely on.
He has been a consistent support to the Board, ensuring that governance structures are properly constituted, directors are appointed in line with regulatory requirements, and the institution always operates within the law. That same discipline has carried over into his compliance work, where he has helped ASA Uganda meet the higher standards that come with being a subsidiary of a London Stock Exchange listed parent company (ASA International) aligning local practice with what international investors and regulators expect.
Currently, Roman is playing a central role in one of the most significant moments in ASA Uganda of transition into a licensed Microfinance Deposit taking Institution (MDI) under the supervision of the Bank of Uganda. He is coordinating the licensing process, engaging with the regulator, and working closely with internal teams and external consultants to ensure the institution crosses this milestone fully prepared and fully compliant.
He has also managed the legal side of debt financing transactions with both local and international funders, ensuring every agreement is watertight and in the institution’s best interest.
Roman is the kind of lawyer who does not seek the spotlight he simply gets things done, and done properly.
