Clever
What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Clever operates at the intersection of the energy and e-mobility sectors, both of which are undergoing rapid transformation driven by electrification, regulatory developments and technological innovation. As one of the leading charge point operators in Denmark, Clever continues to expand its charging infrastructure and develop intelligent charging solutions to support the green transition from fossil fuel cars to electric cars.
Over the past years, Clever’s legal team has played a central role in supporting this continued growth and the increasing complexity of the regulatory and commercial landscape in which Clever operates. A key focus has been advising the business on the development and launch of new products and partnerships across both B2B and B2C segments, including structuring and negotiation of commercial frameworks that support scalable charging solutions for corporate customers, real estate developers and public infrastructure projects.
In parallel, our legal team continues to navigate an evolving regulatory environment affecting both the energy and mobility sectors. This includes implementing new EU and national legislation relating to energy markets, consumer protection, infrastructure deployment and sustainability reporting. Ensuring compliance while enabling the business to move quickly in an evolving and innovation-driven market is also a core element of our legal team’s work.
Beyond transactional work, our legal team is deeply integrated into Clever’s strategic decision-making processes. As Clever continues to scale its operations, we play an active role in supporting new business areas, managing regulatory risk and enabling commercial teams to develop solutions that contribute to the broader transition towards sustainable transport.
What are some of the biggest legal or regulatory challenges currently facing your industry, and how is your team preparing to address them?
The charging infrastructure and energy sectors are currently experiencing significant regulatory development at both EU and national level. And as the regulatory landscape evolves rapidly, we as legal team must have a forward-looking approach. As electrification accelerates across transport and energy systems, regulators are introducing new frameworks aimed at ensuring market transparency, interoperability, consumer protection and grid stability. While these developments are essential to support the green transition, they also add considerable complexity for market participants, here among charge point operators.
We, as legal team in Clever, play a proactive role in navigating this regulatory environment. We aim to integrate legal considerations early in the development of new products, partnership agreements, business models and marketing materials rather than addressing regulation reactively.
This involves close collaboration with commercial, regulatory and technical teams to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical and scalable solutions.
How does your team contribute to the overall business strategy of the company? Can you share an example of a recent legal-led initiative that had a significant impact?
Clever’s legal team actively contributes to Clever’s overall strategy by acting as an integrated part of Clever’s business operations where we support commercial and strategic decision-making. We do not operate as an isolated compliance function; rather, we are, for example, involved early in processes and continuously engaged in the development of new products as well as in negotiations with customers and business partners.
Our close alignment with Clever’s business operations provides us with in-depth knowledge of Clever’s products, business model, and commercial priorities. This enables us to quickly identify legal issues while delivering solutions that support Clever’s strategic priorities. Our advice is therefore pragmatic, helping to drive progress rather than creating unnecessary obstacles.
The ongoing dialogue with the organization also means that we are often involved at an early stage in new initiatives. This allows legal considerations to be embedded in the design phase of new products and partnerships, reducing time-to-market, minimizing the need for subsequent adjustments, and ensuring legally robust solutions.
Finally, our understanding of Clever’s commercial activities strengthens our position in negotiations. By combining legal expertise with commercial insight, we contribute to solutions that balance legal risk with opportunities and thereby support the Clever’s long-term strategic objectives.
