About

Nokia’s legal team in Colombia is led by Juan Pablo Guzman Perico, head of legal and compliance for Latin America. Guzman oversees a regional team that is filled we excellent legal talent, including head of legal and compliance for the Andean region Luis Gonzalo Rojas Duque. Always seeking progression in its working methods and organisation, the team has undergone structural changes recently that have provided a number of benefits. ‘By the end of 2014’, Rojas recalls, ‘Commercial Contract Management (CCM) became part of the legal and compliance team’s remit. This integration improved the way Nokia executes and deploys its projects and agreements, by means of a closer and faster relationship between CCM and the legal counsel community’. Similarly, Nokia’s landmark deal to take over Alcatel-Lucent in 2015 led to ‘many changes with regards to processes, procedures, people, customers’ and other areas. The legal team created the conditions to undertake a successful managed integration of the two company’s legal teams ‘without impacting Nokia’s yearly sales and results’, as part of what was a major success for the department and the company as a whole. Rojas believes that this project was the biggest challenge faced by the team, with the obstacles tackled in a number of ways. In particular, ‘work on customer contract harmonisation’ was undertaken ‘in order to have all customers’ contracts under Nokia Networks standard terms and conditions’ as a way to ensure former Alcatel-Lucent structures work as per Nokia Networks’ tools and processes. Rojas is clear that all Nokia legal team members have a shared goal: ‘We as gate-keepers of the company’s values, are the ones who ensure that our businesses, agreements and projects are legally safe, and in full compliance with the different country legislations in which we are present’.
