What are the key projects you have been involved in over the past twelve months?
Over the past twelve months, I was involved in a strategic investment project related to the expansion of a production plant in Colombia. As in-house counsel, I advised the business on regulatory, contractual and corporate matters, helping manage legal risks while supporting the company’s growth objectives. My role included negotiating agreements, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders and ensuring compliance throughout the project. The expansion strengthened the company’s operational capacity and reinforced its long-term presence in the Colombian market.
Can you describe an instance where your legal advice directly influenced business strategy or commercial objectives?
In several commercial negotiations, I supported the business by helping structure offers with a clear assessment of legal risks. My role involved identifying potential exposures, evaluating their impact and proposing mitigation measures that balanced legal protection with commercial competitiveness. This approach allowed the company to make informed strategic decisions, strengthen its negotiation position and pursue business opportunities while maintaining effective risk management
What key trends should in-house counsel be monitoring over the coming months?
In-house counsel should closely monitor evolving regulations in areas such as ESG, data privacy, compliance and corporate governance. The increasing use of AI and technology in legal operations is also creating new opportunities and risks that require careful oversight. Additionally, economic uncertainty and geopolitical developments continue to impact businesses globally, making proactive risk management and strategic legal support more important than ever.
How can in-house counsel use AI to improve efficiency while maintaining quality, governance and integrity within legal teams?
AI can help legal teams improve efficiency by automating tasks such as contract review, legal research, and document management, allowing lawyers to focus on more strategic matters. At the same time, strong governance and human oversight remain essential to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, compliance and ethical use. AI should support legal judgment, not replace it.
How can general counsel help drive responsible governance and ethical decision-making across an organisation?
General counsel play a key role in promoting a culture of integrity and accountability across the organisation. Beyond providing legal advice, they help ensure that business decisions align with ethical standards, corporate values and regulatory requirements.
