Career Biography

Daniela Mejía Mariño is the legal manager of Investment Banking at Bancolombia (Grupo Cibest), one of the leading financial groups in Latin America. She leads the legal support for the Group’s investment banking business across Colombia and Central America, advising on complex domestic and cross-border transactions throughout the region, including project finance, acquisition finance, structured finance, syndicated lending, capital markets transactions, mergers and acquisitions and equity investments.

With more than 14 years of experience in banking, finance, corporate transactions and capital markets, Daniela has built a distinguished career advising sponsors, lenders, issuers, investors and financial institutions on high-value domestic and cross-border transactions. Her experience combines deep technical expertise with a practical understanding of business objectives, enabling her to bridge legal, financial, regulatory and commercial considerations in complex deal environments.

Before joining Bancolombia, Daniela was a partner in the Banking and Finance practice at Dentons Cárdenas & Cárdenas, where she advised local and international clients on project finance, infrastructure financings, debt issuances, structured lending transactions and acquisition financings. She previously held a senior position at Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría, where she participated in numerous landmark transactions involving infrastructure projects, corporate financings, and cross-border capital markets offerings, including Rule 144A and Regulation S issuances.

Throughout her career, Daniela has been particularly recognised for her work in infrastructure and project finance, having advised on transactions involving transportation, energy, and public-private partnership assets. She has also played a significant role in acquisitions and financings related to Colombia’s 4G infrastructure program and other strategic projects that have contributed to the country’s long-term economic development.

In her current role at Bancolombia, Daniela leads a team of legal professionals supporting a broad portfolio of investment banking mandates and transactions. In addition to her advisory role, she actively promotes process improvement, knowledge management, talent development, and the adoption of innovative technologies to enhance legal service delivery and operational efficiency.

Daniela earned her LL.M. in Securities and Financial Regulation from Georgetown University Law Center, where she graduated with distinction and received the Thomas Bradbury Chetwood, S.J. Prize for achieving the highest academic standing in her program. She also holds a specialisation in Capital Markets Law from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and a law degree from Universidad de los Andes, where she graduated at the top of her class. In addition, she serves as a lecturer in the Graduate Tax Program at Universidad de los Andes.

Her professional excellence has been recognised by leading legal directories. Legal 500 named her a Next Generation Partner in both Banking and Finance and Capital Markets, while Chambers Latin America and Chambers Global recognised her as an Up and Coming practitioner in Banking and Finance.
