Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

Cost optimisation is a frequent premise when companies face challenging seasons for their businesses, and legal costs are no exception. However, I think this approach bears a twist. I believe that the best way to save on legal expenses is to do good business and an essential element of good business is to have a strong legal structure that supports it. In other words, the best way to optimize costs is to do things right from the beginning, especially from a legal point of view. This way, innovation would mean going back to the basics and ensuring that each business is always taken care of since its conception, in its entirety and down to the smallest detail.

What are some of the main trends impacting the industry sector you work in in Colombia?

The energy transition is one of the current forces transforming the world reality. However, the Colombian government has grossly missed the approach. On the one hand, instead of leveraging that transition in the country’s established hydrocarbons industry, it has sent messages that discourage the investment needed to ensure self-sufficiency in fuels, including the gas that is essential in this transformation process.

And on the other hand, although the government has stated that it has a commitment to renewable energies, the truth is that at its request regulation has been promoted that limit and makes the development of this type of project more burdensome.

Therefore, the main challenge in the energy sector is continuing to find ingenious and sustainable ways to continue making the investments that the country needs, despite the contradictory and adverse policies of the current government.

What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, you are passionate about, and why?

I have dedicated my professional life to energy, I believe that one of the most important commitments I have with the world is to provide the energy it needs to keep running. Keeping the flow of energy is essential to keep the world operating. Without energy the world stops. Life on this planet is a manifestation of energy and the only way to make it sustainable is to maintain a permanent connection with our energy sources and make it accessible to all.

A false contradiction between energy and life has been invented, the truth is that there is a necessary and positive relationship between them. My passion is to contribute to humanity having increasingly clean, accessible and reliable forms of energy, for life to prevail.
