What are the most significant cases or transactions that your team has been involved in recently?

The company has grown exponentially over the past couple of years. This growth has been the result of a remarkable team effort. We have been working closely with all the departments of the company and we were able to close the year with a key acquisition of 70% of an organic manufacturer in Northen California.

It is very important to stress that all the work we did is the result of effective teamwork and leadership from the top management team.

How have you harnessed technology to improve output or drive efficiencies?

The pandemic has certainly accelerated the turn to technology for companies worldwide. We have had to learn to use devices and digital tools in the most efficient way. In fact, the transaction mentioned above was completely made from remote using platforms such as WebEx and Teams. Even though we could not, there was no need to travel, and we were able to be connected with counsel based in US and Colombia from a distance. We do use several devices and technologies which facilitate our work and make it more efficient.

As we enter the next decade, what skills will an in-house lawyer need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

In-house lawyers differentiate themselves from private practice lawyers going well beyond mere legal expertise, being deeply involved in the business strategies of the company. It is crucial to really understand the business’ objectives and be versatile working not only on the legal side of things but in partnership with other departments of the company. Training in different areas and subjects can be a key asset to develop a comprehensive understanding of the business to succeed in the modern in-house industry.
