About

Novartis is a large international pharmaceutical research and manufacturing company made up of Novartis Oncology, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, and the affiliated firms or Alcon and Sandoz. Novartis’s drug development programme consists of the entire process in pre-development, clinical trials, and commercial retail. The Novartis legal team in Chile is involved throughout this process, and plays a critical role in bringing products to market by overcoming challenges in regulation compliance, patents and IP law presented by the heavily regulated pharmaceutical industry. The team is led by general counsel Loreto Urqueta since January 2017, who has a solid background of working as lawyer in the pharmaceutical industry. One nominator explained that, ‘Urqueta from Novartis has great leadership skills and a very proactive approach to legal matters. She is a strong team player and is always encouraging her team to fulfil its goals’. She and the team are involved in the corporate responsibility goals of Novartis, and specifically in implementing its global standards in Chile. For example, ensuring that any legal matters regarding the company’s responsible procurement program are handled well. The legal team works alongside in-house subject experts on these topics and other areas of the business to fulfil these comprehensive objectives, as well as other corporate responsibility goals to a high standard.
