About

Latin America Power (LAP) is a renewable energy company in Chile with links to the rest of Latin America, known for its industry-leading commitment to environmentalism and integrity. LAP’s initial investment in Chile was to develop a hydroelectric plant in the Araucanía Region called Carilafquen-Malalcahuello, adding to the other hydro plants LAP manages in Peru. The company also produce wind farms and technology for other renewable energy markets and in May 2015, it began constructing the San Juan Wind Farm, the largest wind farm in Chile with a capacity of 184.8MW, opened in 2017 on the coast of the Atacama region. The legal team played a crucial role in these acquisitions and in the set-up of the operation, overseeing compliance and risk matters. Michael Timmermann is the general counsel at LAP and leads the legal department. He joined the organisation after gaining experience in planning and implementing taxation strategies at the consultants Juan Carlos Cerda & Cia, and the M&A acquisitions team at Barros & Errázuriz. He has experience leading teams in M&A, financing and capital market transactions in Chile, the US, Argentina and Panama. A peer nominated Timmermann and his team saying, ‘at Latin America Power, Michael Timmermann has the ability to act as business manager and legal counsel at the same time, negotiating and obtaining consensus even in an adverse environment. As a consequence, he and his team are very well respected in the energy industry’. LAP are on the forefront of renewable energy in Chile and Peru and are committed to bringing this industry to the Southern Cone region. LAP demonstrate this commitment to ‘improve the energy matrix for Chile and Peru using renewable sources, while maintaining close relationships with local communities, generating value for our shareholders and protecting the environment’ according to its mission statement, and this ethos is carried out in the new projects and technology it brought to the industry in Chile.
