K+S Chile is part of the German multinational company K + S, one of the largest producers of salt and fertilizers in the world. It produces and trades eight million tonnes of Sodium Chloride per year and makes fertilisers and products for all markets. In its salt market, K+S Chile operates the Sol Lobos, and the low sodium Biosal brands. In Chile, K+S also carries out its rock salt mining at its Salar Grande de Tarapacá mine, and transports it around the world. Since 2001, its legal team has been led by Javier Concha, vice-president legal affairs, internal audit and compliance. Over the course of his tenure, the company, in its previous incarnation, was taken over and restructured by K+S, who rebranded it from Sociedad Punta de Lobos (SPL) to K+S Chile. Since then it has expanded the transportation and mining facilities with the opening of a new plant at the Salar Grande de Tarapaca mine, and added a new salt boarding terminal in Caleta Patillos. All of these developments demonstrate the prominence of the legal team and its ability to help the company innovate and develop.
