In Chile, the French world-leading professional services company Bureau Veritas is a holding of six companies that fall under the legal responsibility of legal and compliance manager, Luis Enrique Pineda Macias. He joined the organisation in 2011 and deals with a wide range of matters including labour law, civil liability, insurance, contracts for the provision of services and regulatory issues among others, when safeguarding the brands of the company. The different cases Pineda has excelled in during his time at Bureau Veritas relate to arbitration, civil and administrative issues. He highlights important cases as some of his most important recent contributions at the company, including an arbitral litigation before the Chamber of Commerce of Santiago concerning the application of a penal clause for UF50,000, an ongoing civil case against Empresas Schiappacasse for unpaid services worth more than CLP$300m and another civil case worth CLP$500m where a service provider sued Bureau Veritas without justification. Pineda is also recognised for building the company’s legal and compliance management function. On working at Bureau Veritas, he says, ‘I love the work I do within the company, every day [there] are new challenges and issues that we must resolve with the legal team. It is nice to look back and see all the achievements and growth we have had as legal management and compliance, every day seeing the possibility of how to improve and automate processes.’
