About

Francisca Larraín is an experienced corporate lawyer with a special focus on banking and finance, M&A, project finance and business organisations areas. She has been praised by nominators for her ‘great leadership skills and a very proactive approach to legal matters’. Starting her career in private practice in some of the most reputable law firms in Chile, she was involved in assisting in transactions for several insurance companies in a series of M&A transactions, including the merger of Liberty Seguros Chile and Penta Seguros Generales. After this merger, Liberty offered Larraín the opportunity to lead the legal team in Chile as the chief counsel of the operation and started in that position in March 2018. A nominator also commended her leadership qualities: ‘She is a strong team player and is always encouraging her team to fulfil their goals’. It is to this end, that later in 2018, she was promoted to lead both the legal and compliance areas, while getting to participate in the executive committee of the company. ‘This has been a short but challenging path in the insurance business that encourages me to keep improving and learning both business skills and specific legal knowledge to provide the best advice possible in a scenario of constant change’, says Larraín. She has since reorganised the legal area to be viewed as a partner of the business, creating the figure of ‘legal partners’ within the legal team, in order to allocate team members to specific business areas in order to address the needs of each internal client in a more efficient way. ‘That change also created more alignment and trust from the business towards the legal department’, says Larraín. She has been at the forefront of establishing identified improvements in processes and practices, simplifying certain processes to make the internal client more self-reliant and consequently making the team act with more efficiency.
