Career biography
Jorge Romo is Legal Director for the ACC region, which comprises the countries of Central America, the Caribbean, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela, a position he has held since November 2013, based in Panama City. From July 2015 to January 2017, he was responsible for the Compliance area in the Central America and Caribbean region. He served as President of the Ethics Committee and the Compliance SubCommittee of Fedefarma—the association of the innovative pharmaceutical industry in Central America and the Caribbean—from August 2017 to June 2024.
Jorge is a Mexican lawyer with 22 years’ professional experience in the legal field, 16 of which have been dedicated to the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining Novartis, Jorge successfully served as Legal Manager for Latin America at Eli Lilly & Co., based in Mexico City, and previously worked at the law firms Thacher Proffitt & Wood, S.C., and Jáuregui, Navarrete y Nader S.C., in Mexico City, specialising in dispute resolution.
Jorge studied law at the Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico City, from which he graduated with honours in 2001. He also completed a Master’s degree in International Law (LLM) at the University of Pennsylvania Law School in Philadelphia, United States, in 2008.
