What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

The main challenge has been keeping up to date with all new international regulations and standards on Sustainability and Data Protection. We have seen, in the past year, a significant increase in requirements by our providers to comply with good practices when it comes to those matters. This has been challenging considering the lack of regulation and legislation that has not been updated for a long time in Guatemala. Therefore, we have had to learn from standards from other countries or regions to proactively apply those in our company.

In which ways have you attempted to bring the legal department closer to your business colleagues?

With the use of innovative technologies, we have implemented new ways to communicate and provide constant training to business colleagues within the organisation; this includes but is not limited to the possibility of having virtual trainings, recordings, and face-to-face training. With the return to offices after Covid, we have also prioritised face-to-face interactions to improve communication between the compliance and legal department.

What are some of the most significant cases and transactions you have been involved in recently?

In 2022, we worked on consolidating the business group and expanding the scope of business, always related to healthcare and the distribution of pharmaceutical products.
