About

As one of the largest entertainment companies in Canada, Corus Entertainment boasts one of the most talented in-house legal departments in the sector. Led by Dale Hancocks, executive vice president and general counsel, the team overseas all regulatory, legal and government affairs pertaining to the company’s activities in television, radio, films, programming, books, music, toys and websites. Since 2016, when Corus purchased Shaw Communications’ media portfolio, it has led the sector in television, radio and other programming content, and the legal team has been at the forefront of growing the company’s portfolio. Publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Corus owns 15 television stations, 39 radio stations and creates content sold in 160 countries around the world. Headquartered in Toronto with a vibrant creative scene, Corus’s subsidiary Nelvana is a world leading children’s toy and programming creator. It has, in the last year, announced an exclusive licensing deal with Mattel group to market its Thomas and Friends toys and broadcast the television series and digital content on Corus platforms and channels. Additionally, the legal team has negotiated and closed a deal with Vivid Toy Group for the global licensing rights (excluding toys) to innovative new collectible property UniVersus, and Nelvana will produce 20 shorts and other content for the company as part of the agreement.
