How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

In times of instability or crisis, my approach begins with validating my understanding of the business’s priorities to ensure alignment. Legal guidance must go beyond technical expertise – it should consider strategic, economic, and reputational dimensions. My focus is on offering practical, business-oriented legal advice, enabling informed decision-making and calculated risk-taking when appropriate.

Clear communication, prioritisation, and alignment with broader business goals allow legal to act as a partner, not just a safeguard. I also work closely with cross-functional teams to design crisis response plans that incorporate legal insights into operational strategy. This proactive posture enhances resilience, minimises disruptions, and positions the company to emerge stronger from challenging situations.

What are the major cases or transactions you have been involved in recently?

One of my key recent initiatives has been addressing abusive (or predatory) litigation. My team and I have invested resources and applied our legal expertise to proactively engage with courts, regulators, and stakeholders to address this growing issue. We’ve also played leadership roles in legal forums and policy discussions to advocate for reforms and raise awareness about the systemic harm resulting from frivolous or bad-faith litigation.

Our strategic efforts have led to over 1, 400 favorable judicial rulings, all of which included sanctions against plaintiffs for abusive conduct. These outcomes signal a shift within the judiciary toward recognising and discouraging opportunistic litigation. Most importantly, we’ve seen a measurable decline in the volume of such claims, reducing legal costs and strengthening the organisation’s resilience in the corporate environment.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands out as a transformative force in the legal field. I not only stay informed, but also actively integrate AI into daily operations. In our litigation team, AI is used to generate structured evidence kits to support external counsel in the preparation of legal defenses in consumer lawsuits. These kits are built by transcribing and analyzing all interactions between plaintiffs and our customer service channels. The system then highlights excerpts that may serve as evidence in litigation. This streamlines defense preparation and ensures no relevant data is missed.

To stay up to date, I engage in legal tech forums, attend industry events, and maintain dialogue with peers and academics. This continuous learning mindset helps me assess risks, identify opportunities, and leverage emerging technologies to add tangible value to the business.
