What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Teva has passing through a big transformation in Brazil with the review of its internal structure to better suit business needs and the incorporation of new products, as part of our strategy plan. Our legal department is playing an important role in this process, supporting both local and Latin America teams. We just created a new business unit for rare diseases, and I have been closely supporting the team due to my previous experiences at Shire and BioMarin. We are also increasing more and more the use of technology in order to enable the team to be more agile.

Did the pandemic lead to a lasting increase in the interaction your legal team has with the strategic plans of the company?

Back in 2020, after enjoying my sabbatical year, it was time to look for a new challenge in my career and Teva presented a great opportunity to develop myself in a completely new environment with different culture and business segment. I like to say that I had two first days at Teva, one in the middle of the pandemic, working from home and meeting my team and colleagues by Skype and Teams, and the second first day, when I had the chance to go to the office and finally meet everyone face to face. Only after that, I believe, we manage to find the right balance on the interactions with my team and our business partners.

As we live in a fast-paced world today, what skills will a corporate legal team need to succeed in the modern in-house industry?

The role of an in-house counsel naturally grows in times of disruption and crisis. Legal teams are required to provide clarity and build on the corporate resilience to ensure business continuity. In my view, a fast-adapting mode and agile skills are essential to succeed in this new corporate environment.
