About

Fugro is the world’s leading, independent provider of geo-intelligence and asset integrity solutions for large constructions, infrastructure and natural resources. The company has been operating in Brazil for over 20 years, providing a wide variety of geotechnical, survey, subsea and geoscience services, principally for the deep water oil and gas industry, offering innovative solutions to meet the demands of the market. Geisa Campos has been an in-house legal counsel for services companies in the oil and gas industry for over 15 years. Previously, she worked at an airline company (VARIG) in the commercial team. Campos joined Halliburton in 2003, initially providing legal support to the HR and payroll departments. In 2004, she was promoted to an in-house legal counsel position. In early 2010, Campos joined Fugro as the head of legal in Brazil at a time when the company was increasing its operations by winning several new contracts in diving, ROV (Remoted Operated Vehicle) and survey activities. With the company’s growth, the demands for legal services have increased and on August 1st 2018, she was relocated to Houston where she now serves as the senior legal counsel, Marine Americas. In this position Campos continues to have overall responsibility for Brazil, and in Latin America generally. As part of her experience in the previous company, she has worked on a large and challenging offshore project involving the construction of two FPSOs P43 and P48 for Petrobras. The project involved thousands of employees and billions of dollars. As part of this project, she helped introduce procedures to assess risks, to handle compliance issues, and to deal with regulatory authorities. The project also included the management of a considerable number of high value claims, many of which were settled and others that were adjudicated in the court system. At Fugro, Campos led a project to create a database with all corporate legal documents and helped implement procedures to restructure the collaboration with the commercial team. She says, ‘it helped us to work more efficiently. It also helped me realize how crucial it was to work closely with the operations team in order to better understand the company’s activities. Intimately knowing the business operation gave me a broader perspective to provide the best support for managerial decision making. I strived to not only bring a legal perspective but to be a valuable advisor in line with the values and the goals of the company’.
