Amira Chammas has extensive experience within and leading in-house legal departments in Brazilian and multinational companies such as Walmart, and PepsiCo, as well as working at PwC and Demarest Almeida. Her legal expertise spans M&A, litigation, tax planning and consulting, crisis and risk management including recall, compliance and other matters. She has excelled in restructuring legal teams, hiring professionals and external counsel throughout Brazil, people management and mentoring. In 2016, she assumed her role as head of legal at Formitex, a large Brazilian chemical company and is currently responsible for all legal support in Brazil and Argentina. She redesigned the entire team to implement a new model requiring that all lawyers have to work as a multitasking professionals. Every lawyer in her team works on all legal areas and there is consistent performance between all professionals. Since this change, each lawyer can replace another and there is no interruption of the business or of the legal department. Chammas orchestrated the legal matters of an M&A project that has been part of the financial restructuring of the company valued at €100m. She says that, ‘the most important achievement in my career was the possibility to develop different ways to do my job. Not only with the legal knowledge but incorporating other matters like, administration, accountancy, finance, people management and more’. Chammas also acts as a visiting professor at INSPER business school of management, further showing her comittment and value to Brazil’s legal community.
