What are some of the key developments (legal, geopolitical, or otherwise) that have affected your business over the past year?

Among the most relevant aspects regarding the sociopolitical situation in Bolivia has been the rate of growth of startups in the country, mainly in the B2B and B2C sectors, as well as the promotion of accelerators that involve companies and startups to promote their development in the country, and promote the permanence and growth of innovation in the national territory. This led legal studies to update their knowledge in investment strategies, legal innovation, intellectual property, and business adaptation to the tax and regulatory regime. They have even motivated law firms to develop and promote training programs through talks and courses at universities to keep the knowledge supply up to date with market needs. However, the economic perspective at the national level presents uncertainties regarding the stability of the currency, but nothing that has not previously been perceived as an opportunity in the country.

How do you think the internal legal role will evolve in the coming years?

Internal lawyers will actively participate more in planning the business strategy and innovation proposals. Likewise, there will be more significant interaction with other areas of prior interaction that are not as common as marketing, management of product owners and, in general, those that focus on the user’s experience when purchasing products or services.

At the same time, thanks to the breaking down of geographical barriers provided by technology, it will be necessary for internal lawyers to seek to collaborate with various areas and internationally so that the experiences are enriching in various geographical settings.

Likewise, they will promote alternative dispute resolution methods, such as conciliation and arbitration, to manage any disputes that may arise promptly and efficiently.
