Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved the way your legal team works and did not come at a huge cost?

Over time and as a team, we have managed to improve the work and service we provide to internal customers through the standardisation and use of corporate contract formats for customers and suppliers, as well as the use of shared databases of contracts and digital documents and improvements in the management of the company’s brands.

What are some of the key developments that have affected your business over the past year?

As a multi-Latin corporation, and to prevent new regulations from negatively impacting us, Alicorp must constantly monitor the development of new legislation as well as updates of current legislation in all the countries where we conduct business. This requires close contact and fluid communication between all the internal legal departments in our various geographies and with the external law firms that support us in different countries.

How do you think the internal legal role will evolve in the coming years?

There is definitely a very interesting evolution in the role of the in-house lawyer, who must now better understand the conduct and the means that the company uses for its activities. In any case, I believe that the main mission of the in-house lawyer will continue to be the legal protection of the company and the prevention of contingencies.

Do you use any legal technology products and, if so, for what areas of your work do you find them most useful?

We do utilise a number of legal technologies which have improved the efficiency and effectiveness of our legal team. For example, we subscribe to online regulatory update service platforms. We have software that enables the issuance of certain types of contracts. We have a platform that alerts us to the approaching expiry date of our contracts so we can stay ahead of any problems. We use digital file sharing daily, which contains digital copies of all our contracts, corporate and other documents. Finally, we are also in the testing period of a new software for digital contract issuance which will help to further streamline our work and allow us to focus on more complex tasks.
