What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The principal transactions we have worked on are below. Our team drafted master franchising agreements for Subway International BV’s business in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, India, and United Arab Emirates. In addition, we have been involved in arbitration for Russian master franchise, acquisition of Eat-Commerce digital company and divestiture of India operations.

How do you feel the pandemic has changed the world of work for in-house counsel and the function of the general counsel?

The pandemic forced in-house counsel to think out of the box whilst increasing flexibility. The general counsel is required to change their management process by expanding their understanding of their employees’ personal lives.

What will be the main focus for the company in the next 12 months and how do you intend to assist with this?

Maintaining the current way of managing people, the company will focus on providing training and growth opportunities for talented, flexible, and agile individuals. Whilst retaining talent in the rashly changing environment, we will increase opportunities to match market forces for a competitive landscape.

What do you feel are the pros and cons of an in-house legal role compared to a private practice one?

In-house legal roles tend to lead processes in a proactive, speedy, and efficient manner rather than cleaning up problems after the fact. We are a trusted business partner specialised in decision-making management.
